2015 T2: WHY DOES THE MOON LOOK DIFFERENT EVERY NIGHT? (Explanation)

In Week 6 of Term 2 our class focussed on how to write great explanations.
We wrote about the Moon’s different phases as we are in the middle of learning about Planet Earth and Beyond. Learning how to write a great explanation will help us with our self-guided topics in a few weeks time. Here is my writing, after I have self-assessed and peer-assessed my work.

The grey asteroid (the Moon) always changes its appearance each night. This is caused by the Lunar Phases. Some people believe that the Moon’s shape is caused by the Earth’s shadow so I will explain to you the truth of why the Moon changes its appearance each night.

The Moon’s Orbit:
The Moon’s orbit around the Earth is tilted while it orbits around the Sun. People believe that the shadow of the Earth causes the Moon by changing its own appearance, but scientists has proven that it is false. The Moon is actually caused by the amount of Sun that the Moon can reflect on.

The Lunar Phases:
There are eight lunar phases and they are called:
The New Moon,Waxing Crescent,Waxing Gibbous, First Quarter, New Moon, Waning Gibbous, Last Quarter, Waning Crescent. The New Moon is a dark black shadow of the original Moon.

Lunar Months:
A Lunar Month is the amount of time it takes for the Moon to pass through its Lunar Phases. Then it turns back into its original place. It takes 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and 3 seconds, to complete the Moon going through the Lunar Month.

Conclusion:
I hope this explanation made you understand why the Moon always changed each night. Also if you still don’t really understand why the Moon changes each night here is a youtube link that you can watch to understand much more clearly:

21/5/15 2015 T2: My Mars Information Report!

Our Mysterious Neighbor
Introduction
There is a tiny star that we can see in space that looks kind of red. And that tiny star is actually a planet called Mars. I if you want to know more well then this information report is all to you to read!.

Appearance:
Mars is called the ‘Red planet’ because of its colour. It has old volcanoes and big rocks because they were caused by asteroids and meteoroids. Interestingly, no one has actually seen if Mars is a cold dark planet or a hot bright planet. But to us Mars looks like a hot bright planet.
This is a picture of the dust storms that Mars has.
Could Humans live on Mars?:
Lots of humans think that they could possibly live or stand on Mars, but they can not because Mars has no oxygen but maybe a little bit. Amazingly, Mars has hazards on its own planet. E.G Dust
Storms, Volcanoes erupting, and many more.

Mars’ Orbit:
How long does it take for Mars to revolve on its own axis?, Mars takes 24 hours and 37 minutes. Also Mars is 225,300,000 km away from Earth (Us) so that means Mars is our neighbor which we already know. Now you know how long it takes Mars to turn on its own axis and also how far Mars is from Earth.
This is a picture of Mars’ Orbit and what it looks like.
Mars’ Moon:
Mars has only two moons (Phobos & Deimos). The largest moon between Phobos & Deimos is Phobos. Phobos is a grey lumpy moon & Deimos is a grey and brown lumpy moon. As you can see, Mars’ moons are pretty similar in weird ways.
This is a picture of what Phobos & Deimos (Mars’ Moon) looks like
Conclusion:
I hope this information report tought you lots of cool information about Mars!. If you want to find out more about Mars here is a link:
